News December 2010
A big welcome back to Mrs McClearn from her 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes. She has arrived back just in time for our Christmas activities. Pupils of her class wish Miss Colleran all the best and thank her for “holding the fort “so well.
Fourth class recently went to Glor to see a performance of “The Girl who forgot to sing badly” starring Louis Lovett who played Dieter in Killnascully. They had a most enjoyable day and thank Maeve Kinsella for providing transport.
Plays for Christmas
Second, third, fourth and fifth classes are busy rehearsing their Christmas plays “The Xmas Factor” and “Uncles Crumble's Mad Machine” and from what I have heard - they should do very well. The whole school was preparing for the food fair and getting ready for Christmas, with the Christmas tree, crib and Christmas art work going up on display around the school.
The School Garden
The frost has now more or less closed down the school garden, but during November we brought inside a selection of seeds which we displayed and tried to save for planting next year. Among the seeds saved were broad beans, peas, onions, tomatoes, sweet peas, sunflowers and squash. When the weather warms up, we will have to get out, tidy up, dig in the manure and put the beds to “sleep” for winter.
The Food Fair
The annual Food Fair was held on December 11th. It was a most enjoyable and successful day and this was because of the huge effort put in by pupils, past pupils, parents and other family members and staff. There is great credit due to our pupils in particular. They became very involved in the planning and preparation of the fair and they demonstrated imagination, commitment and hard work in the different tasks they undertook. Well done to all of them. The school is also very grateful to the many local business that sponsored prizes.
The total raised was €2017 which was a big increase on last year.
