Credit union quiz
The annual childrens quiz, sponsored by Derg Credit Union will take place in February.Having won this quiz several times over the years, Mountshannon national school will be taking part this year. We have a total of sixteen children who have won their way through to represent the school in four teams over two age catagories. We wish all the children well who are taking part.
Indoor Hurling and Camogie
The school took part in the annual schools indoor and camogie blitz in Feakle in January. While both teams preformed well, defeating Scariff by a comfortable margin. The indoor blitz gives an opportunity to younger players as the camogie operates from fifth class down while the hurling caters for children from fourth class down.
Desk clutter is often a problem in schools as children have more books and copies and in the modern type of desk, have less storage space than in the larger desks of yesteryear. In an effort to overcome this, the school has purchased sets of wire baskets which are screwed to the underside of the childrens tables and which offer a good amount of storage space. So far the baskets appear to be working well although the children will take some time to get use to them. Our sincere thanks to Mr Howe who installed the baskets.
With the month of February upon us, the school garden has come into focus. The children have been working busily in January preparing the beds for planting in the spring. The work has also involved the creating of new raised beds in the poly tunnel. This is the first full year of the operation of the poly tunnel and we are very excited of the possibilities it will offer. The school pond has survived the winter well and we are hoping that local frogs will have noticed it and that we will have frog spawn.
