At Jim's request, we asked Santa to come and visit the children last December. He was very kind and gave everyone a treat and a gift.

Thank you Santa!

We held a Pancake Party on Shrove Tuesday in the Aistear. A great afternoon was had by all!

Money raised: 241 euro

Family Fun Day:

In June, the Iniscealtra Arts Festival invited us to help organize a Family Fun Day on the bank holiday Monday. It was well attended and a great success!

Money raised: 253 euro

Sponge Bob Cafe:

SWIMING LESSONS:

It was brought to our attention that swimming lessons might be more beneficial in the Spring than in the Autumn as the weather is usually milder           and Summer swim time closer. Also, if any parents can help out and             volunteer to accompany the group to lessons to help out with hair drying         time, that would be GREAT!  Another suggestion was to have lessons later in            the day so kids can go home after returning from the lesson.

We would like to Thank all the people for participating and supporting          these events and the School. We understand it is not always so easy to          make

time for all the things that are going on.

As always your suggestions and feedback are always welcome!

Please phone or text any suggestions to: Molly-086-898-0356 or

            Maeve- 086-404-3399.

Next Edition of the Parents Association Newsletter coming to you      sometime next Spring!

Grocery Bag Packing:

And finally, last month, our greatest success to date! Yippee! Wahoo! was the  grocery bag packing at Dunnes Store, Ennis. Despite the incredibly  inconvenient dates Dunnes Store allocated to us, we did extraordinarily well  and plan on doing better the next time.

Money raised: 841 euro

        Total raised 1,426.00 euro

        Road Safety Garda McGrath:

Garda McGrath came out from Scariff to advise us on safe parking procedures when collecting children. One of the greatest fears at the school is a child getting seriously injured crossing the road, anytime. Visibility is particularly poor due to traffic congestion at pick up and drop off times.  Children as well as adults have difficulty seeing which vehicles are stationary and which ones are moving. This combined with fast moving vehicles especially lorries moving through congested traffic with lots of children        present is a disaster waiting to happen.

Working Together we can ensure our children's safety, WE can make it work!

Advice on what do:

u      Clear visibility for children: Remember to not double park.

u      Whenever possible, park at the church and walk up to collect children.

u      There will be approximately seven temporary parking spaces available outside the school. Please remember to keep spaces available for parents with babies and toddlers in their cars.

       NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

As you all have noticed, we have a new pedestrian crossing. YIPPIE!

As of yet, it is  incomplete, we are awaiting pedestrian signs and road striping. These measures will help  alert vehicles of approaching zebra crossing

Please remember to remind children to use extreme caution when crossing      the road even though the zebra crossing is there.

Alert drivers may notice the crossing, but less  alert drivers will still zip  through. It is crucial for your child's safety that road safety crossing proceedure is adhered to.

Please remember to not park on or near the pedestrian crossing as this limits visibility for children crossing and approaching cars.

            Thank you for your help!

PLANS FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

 SPORTS PROGRAMME:

According to your suggestions and in-line with the cutbacks made, DK SPORTS will be taking children for activities ranging from HAKA to Gymnastics beginning this October.  We are delighted to let you know that this will be subsidised from funds we raised from events during the past   year. There will be a note home in the next few weeks. Parents will probably have to chip in a bit but the fee should be very reasonable.

            PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT:

We are looking into playground equipment to see what could be provided in     the safest way possible. We will present our proposals to the Board of Management.

            BOOK RENTAL SCHEME:

There is a new book rental scheme being arranged to help reduce the cost
of school books. All going well, it will be up and running for the next school    year. (September 2010).

            ROAD SAFETY:

Safety of our children is our biggest priority, and to this end we are researching Garda training on road safety for our possible new

            lollipop kids.

            HALLOWEEN FUN:

Before we break up on October 26th, we're planning some Halloween Fun

for the children during school hours. Possibly a story teller or puppet show.

                                                AGM:

The AGM of the Parents Association will be held early next February.
