New Parents
We want to say Hello to all you New Parents and Pupils and Welcome you to the school! You may not be aware there is a Parents Association in the School, so we would like to let you know we are here! Please come along to the next Agm if you would like to find out more about our aims and goals and get involved in the committee!

Arts Festival
This was our 2nd year running a Family Fun day as part of the Annual Arts Festival. Despite the bad weather it was a great success! We had hot waffles, hot chocolate, crafts, music and face painting. Mark Wilson kindly sponsored the crafts section. The Invisible Man made an “appearance” with his band and they brought one of Ireland's largest Kaleidoscopes. Thank you to all those who came and thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day. Anyone with any ideas or suggestions or is interested in getting involved this June please get in touch.

Road Safety & Unfinished Pelican crossing
Unfortunately we have no news to report on the status of the unfinished Pelican crossing outside the School.
The Road Safety Petition as mentioned in the last newsletter, was completed and forwarded to the County Council Planning Office, County Councillors, County Managers, County Engineers, Community Council and Tds. The then Taoiseach also received the full package, and we personally explained our concerns to him when he visited the Child Care Facility last June. The issue also received newspaper coverage.
After the packages were sent out, a meeting was arranged with several of the afore mentioned people. It was a very hopeful meeting. Several suggestions were put forward as to how to resolve the problem, and promises were made to help.
We are dismayed that the matter is still unresolved. As far as we are aware, the School Board of Management has had no results from the Developer: Mountshannon Community Council or their Project Manager. To date, they still have failed to comply with planning condition No. 1 of the development, ie: Pelican Crossing complete with Traffic lights (not flashing lights)
It has been over a year since the Planning Office first wrote and reminded the developer of the requirement to complete planning condition No. 1.
Before and since that time, we have raised our concerns to the County Road Engineers and the danger the unfinished crossing poses to our children. They were able to provide signage and road striping alerting drivers that there was a crossing at the school. Up until that point, there was nothing alerting an approaching motorist there was a crossing until they were next to it or driving across it.
Currently, as an extra safety measure and knowing full well the potential danger, the School Staff, every evening after school supervise the children across the road. Please please, keep the crossing area clear at this time as the parked cars completely obstruct visability for the children crossing. Thank you.
We hope the Community Council and their Project Manager will contact the BoM to discuss proposals/ plans to resolve the matter and complete the crossing to make the road safe for our children. In the meantime the School Staff continue to supervise the Children crossing the road. We thank them for their care and diligence but, and we are sure they will agree, its not good enough for our children.

A party was held in the Child Care Centre this year and there was a great turn out. Thank you for attending! Thank you to all helpers, much appreciated, and thanks to the Child Care Centre for permission for the use of their premises. We had to charge entry to cover costs. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or wish to help out for next year.

Some committe members helped out with Christmas crafts in the run up to Christmas. And then, Santa called in to see everyone on the last day of school. Thank you Santa!

Drama Classes
We organized and funded Drama classes for all the classes recently. The six week block finished before Christmas. We hope the Children enjoyed and benefitted from it.

Next Agm will be in March . Please attend.

With Kind Regards,
The Parents Association Committee.
